Among the pictures affected by the strike in Britain's film studios (a strike which looks like putting nearly 5,000 studio staff out of work) is "The Purple Plain," an adaptation of the novel by Mr H. E. Bates.

Ever since filming began on location in Ceylon, “The Purple Plain" seems to have been dogged by bad luck. The novel deals with adventures on an air strip In Burma during World War II bút, for the film, Coylon was chosen because It made for more amenable working conditions and it also had a convenient air strip near the spot where Paramount recently shot "Elephant Walk." The air strip, however, was about the only convenience that turned up.
