Ottawa, Mar. 31.

Canada and Japan signed a one-year trade treaty today, giving each other unconditionał most-favoured nation treatment.

The new pact, announced simultaneously in Ottawa and Tokyo, was signed by the External Affairs Minister, Mr Lester B. Pearson, and the Trade Minister, Mr C. D. Howe for Canada, and by the Japanese Ambassador, Mr Koto Matsudaira, who arrived in Ottawa last week.

The agreement will go into effect when ratified by both countries. It will be valid for a year from the ratification date and will continue in effect unless end- ed by either party.
