New Radar System Designed

To "Let Out A Yell"

In this week's round-up of Aviation news from the headquarters of British aviation manufacturers in London-the Society of British Aircraft Constructers-there are itams about the industry's “boflins“ experimenting with new and more effective radar systems, the industry's comment on the British Government's new policy of testing about 20 prototype aircraft at a time instead of the two or three prototypes previously employed,

and an interesting story about the plans of an Australian aviator, Captain P.G. Taylor to organise luxury sea-plane trips to the South Sea Islands,

Payments Agreement

From Our Correspondent

London, Mar. 14.

Was

The belief that Japanese goods are a menace to British exports wherever they appear further undermined this week by the Chairmen of two principal Eastern banks.

The angry uproar over the Anglo-Japanese payments agreement has already died away to an aggrieved muttering. Critics of the agreement have no doubt been mollified by the Government's assurance that increased imports of Japanese textiles into the colonies will not mean ruination for Lancashire.

In fact the colonies will spend only another £7,500,000 on Japanese goods for their own consumption this year.

The remainder of the increase in colonial imports from Japan-some £36,500,000—will be for the entrepot trade of Hongkong and Singapore.

From Our Correspondent

London, Mar. 14.

London The cheerful atmosphere of the Stock Exchange last week surprised many people especially as the markets are usually in a state of suspended animation at this time as they await the outcome of the budget.

The City, however, now appears to have made up its mind about the budget. It has given up hope of further tax concessions but finds con- no further burdens will be imposed.

But continued firmness of gilt-edged securities mainly reflects the view now wide-spread in the City that ; Interest rates will shortly take a tumble. There is again talk of a reduction in the bank rate, this time backed up by direct evidence that the "four per cent era" is coming to an end,
