Shell Gasoline now contains I.C.A. (Ignition Control Additive). This Shell-discovered additive, incorporating tricresyl phosphate, puts an end to the major cause of power loss... pre-ignition and short-circuiting of spark plugs by combustion chamber deposits. Prove this for yourself by the Two-Tankful Test.
The Greatest Gasoline Development in 32 Years
Tetraethyl lead was introduced in 1922
Pre-ignition and spark plug fouling are the greatest barriers to the full use of engine power. Now there's something you can do about it! The reason why engines become rough and lose power, is that deposits accumulate in the combustion chamber and on the spark plugs. In the combustion chamber those deposits become red hot and cause the fuel/air mixture to ignite prematurely. This is called pre-ignition. It results in a severe noise which engineers call "wild ping". You have probably heard it, especially during acceleration and hill climbing. Pre-ignition can damage your engine.
You may also have noticed that your engine develops an unexplained misfire when you are driving on the open road. That is because the same deposits "build up" on your spark plugs and short-circuit them.
TWO-TANKFUL TEST
This wastes fuel and robs you of power.
Determined to abolish the greatest cause of power and fuel waste, Shell research technicians discovered a unique fuel additive, I.C.A. Shell Gasoline with I.C.A. accomplishes what no other fuel ever did before. First, by "fireproofing" the deposits it stops pre-ignition. Second, by changing the character of the deposits it eliminates the short-circuiting of spark plugs.
Those deposits are robbing you of fuel and power. By making them harmless, Shell Gasoline with I.C.A. enables new and overhauled engines to keep their "new car" performance longer. Older engines take on new life. From today you can start using ALL the cylinders ALL the time by changing to Shell with I.C.A.
Here is a challenge: after using two tankfuls of SHELL with I.C.A, you will notice your engine running smoother and performing better than it ever did since the car was new or the engine overhauled and tuned. Smoother running means less engine damage. Better performance can mean more M.P.G.
Shell I.C.A. enables motor manufacturers to use higher performance engines of high compression ratios, and LEADS THE WAY TO CHEAPER MOTORING.
REMEMBER! I.C.A, containing tricresyl phosphate, is exclusive to SHELL.
