Chairman Replies To Accusations

A firm reply to accusations made overseas about the activities of Wheelock Marden and Co., Ltd., was made by their Chairman, Mr G. E. Marden when he addressed shareholders at the company's annual meeting this morning.

Mr Marden said the company had adhered loyally to the regulations laid down by the local Authorities.

Mr Marden also referred to the expansion of con- fidence in the security of the Colony during the past twelve months, adding that there was no likelihood of this developing into dangerous complacency.

In the absence of higher taxes or of further cuts in Government spending beyond those already scheduled (either or both of which, accord- ing to Colin Clark, would make matters worse) Treasury Secretary Hum- phrey foresees a budget deficit of $13 to $14 billion in the year starting. next July.
