"Sound Thrashing" Plot Leads To Fatality

TODAY'S MURDER TRIAL OPENING

A plot by members of one gang to give members of a rival gang "a sound thrashing" resulted instead in one man being fatally injured with a chopper in the Mongkok district, Kowloon, on the evening of July 23 last.

This led to the arrest and trial before Mr Justice. T. J. Gould, acting. Chief Justice, at the Criminal Sessions this morning of Chan Kau. alias Chan Kai, 26, who was charged with the murder of Chan Fook, an employee of the Royal Naval Dockyard.

Exhibited in Court at the trial was the "chopper" (actually a bread- knife) 14% inches long and weighing eight ounces, and a shirt, thoroughly soaked in blood, which the Crown alleged had been worn by the deceased on the night he was killed.
