The United Nations envoy, Mr Arthur Dean, was prepared today (Tuesday) to compromise with the Communists on the admission of neutral na- tions to the Korean peace conference but a Red spokesman predicted that the offer would be re- jected.

Mr Dean said that he might attempt to break the deadlocked preliminary talks by proposing that "certain neutral nations" attend the full- dress conference.

The Reds have stymied the pre-conference dis- cussions by insisting that neutral nations, in addition to participants in the Korean war, be admitted.

Communist correspondent Alan Winnington, who usually reflects official Red thinking, said he considered Mr Dean's compromise "even worse than other Allied ideas on the conference.

"It is my view that our side will never accept it," Winnington said.
