Barbara Leigh is well-known in the United Kingdom, having broadcast in "Much Binding in the "Marsh" and taken the lead in Ivor Novello's "King's Rhapsody" when it was on tour there.rin Alistair McHarg, too, is familiar to serving men | in the Middle East and, in Germany where he has spent some time entertaining them with his music. "Wednesday Theatre" at 9.30 this week brings listeners "The Onlooker's Tale", a play by Geoffrey Mead. It is based on the story of Queen Elizabeth the First and the Earl of Essex.. The 'onlooker in Sir Robert Cecil, whose position as the Queen's Secretary enabled him to see much of the plotting that carried on in Court circles.
His story is a chronlele of the revenge of an ageing Queen on the arrogant Earl whose ambi- Bons led him to intrigue against the Throne itself. In a strong east, Elizabeth is played by Grizelda Hervey, Essex by Ralph Truman, and Cecil by Deryck Guyler.
