Britain's Oil Refinery Construction

The final phase of Britain's post-war oil refinery programme is now nearly completed. The distillation plants are all operating and the second and third phase units, like the cat-cracker and the sulphur-producing plants, are now in operation or soon will be.

The total capacity of these post-war refineries is now in the region of 26m, tons of crude oil a year and for the most part they are operating at the full rate. There is, however, room for expan- sion and production could be stepped up to an annual rate of around at least 30m, tons.
