ECONOMIC PLAN FOR BURMA

Rangoon, Aug. 25. The Burmese Government is reported to have accepted the broad principles, of a pro gramme of economic develop- ment which would double the country's national output in eight

years.

The programme is outlined in a report on Burma's economie resources submitted to the Gov- ernment today.

The report, which took two years to prepare, in the work of an American arm of engineer- ing consultants, the Knapper, Tippets and Abbet Engineering Company of New York.

The report has not been' ro leased to the prose but it i known to recommend an eight- year programme designed to raise the 1052 national output of $5,000,000,000. rupices (£2,020,000,) to 70,000,000,000 гиреев (6,250,000,000).

The programme would also raise the per capital income from 162 rupces (213 13s) to 340

rupees (£25. 10).

To achieve forgote the consultanta suggest the Invest ment of 7,600,000,000 rupeer (£502,500,000) over an eight- year period.
