WHEN LINDWALL. BECAME TOP SCORER
EMPIRE GAMES SHOULD SEE HIGHER STANDARD IN THROWING EVENTS
By "RECORDER"
The Fourth British Empire and Commonwealth Games at Van- couver, Canada, next July should see a higher standard in the throwing events. Even as recently as at the 1952 Games at Auckland places in the first six in the Shot Put, Discus and Javelin Throws were won at such miserable distances as 43 feet, 177 feet and 120 feet and some odd inches. Though stil lagging behind the world as a whole, Empire marks in these Six Empire events have shown remarkable improvement in the past two years, discus throwers over 150 feet in the space of a few months is an unprecedented situation in history and 15 javelin throwers over 130 feet is a remarkable number by the standards of the past,
