For The Holding Of The World Soccer Tournament

Preparations are well in hand for the holding of the World Soccer Cham- pionship for the Jules Rimet Cup in Switzerland next June and July. Fifty nations, applied for entry, and of these 12 were accepted. These were divided into 13 groups, and since then China and Poland have with drawn from the competition.

As the result of the qualifying groupings, 16 countries will play in the com- petition proper at Basle, Berne, Geneva. Lausanne, Lugano and Zurich from June 16 to July 4, and of these three are already assured their places — Uruguay, holders--they won in Rio de Janeiro in 1950-Switzerland, as hosts, and Hungary, because of the defection of their only opponents in Group 7, Poland.
