Plans For Great Britain

Washington, July 16.

The United States Mutual Security Adminis tration plans to give Britain about $800,000,000 worth of direct and indirect military aid under the Aid for Allies programme for the coming year; it was learned authoritatively today.

But officials cautioned that the final amount for Britain might be somewhat less if Congress made heavy cuts in pending appropriation bills wlrich actually provide the money for foreign aid.

A

Mutual Security spokes- man told Reuters that under current plans Britain was to receive about $200,000,000 worth of guns, tanks and other milltary supplies from the United States and another $100,000,000 to finance pro- duction of the new British Hawker Hunter jet fighter for the Royal Air Force,

In addition it was proposed to place in the next 12 montha dollar-backed contracts worth an estimated $400,000,000 with British inctories for military equipment for the North lantic Pact forces.

These contracts, known RS offshore procurement", would i loclude onders for British tanks, weapons,, ammunition and com→ munications equipment.

$50,000,000 fund to provide Britain with needed supplies of cotton, wheat and lard was also contemplated as "defence sup- port" geared to rearmament. -

This aid for Brinin, totalling about $810,000,000, was part of the. $5.157,000,000 1:lobal ald authorisation bill which Wus upproved by Congress on Man- day.

Australian Paper's Suggestion

The White House snid the Administration also planned to spend $93,800,000 of a $98,300, 000 fand which the bill au- thorised the President to use at his discretion.
