Side by side in a Lancashire factory, engineers are working on one of Britain's lafest delta jots and famous 1914-18 "stringbag" biplane bomber.

Rigging the wire struts and fabric fuselage of the famous single-engined Avro 504, tech- nicions work next to colleagues who are putting the finishing touches to the Avro 707C, Intest of the company's delta wing research aircraft.

The 504 was made in 1914 and shot down while on re.Jinais- fance over the Somme two years later. It was repaired and, after the war, presented to the Selenco Museum, who loaned it in 1925 for a trado exhibition in Hull.

During the last war, the ex-": hibition's building was damaged by bombs. It was not repaired becaure priority had to be given to m e important work. For 12 year. the 604 was exposed to the wind and rain.
