Compromise Truce Proposal Delayed

Tokyo, May 20.

Authoritative sources said today (Wednes- day) that last minute British objections to an Allied compromise plan for breaking the Korean truce deadlock might have delayed its presentation to the Communists.

Renewal of the armistice talks after a three- day recess had been set for today. But the Allies suddenly extended the recess by five days to next Monday. The extension was announced an hour- before Lieut-Gen. William K. Harrison was to have left Tokyo for Korea with the compromise proposal which was worked out in consultations with General Mark W. Clark and with Washing- ton.
