COOLER WEEK-END FOR COBURN, WALLER & CO...

By "RECORDER"

Twenty-nine improvements in best performances were registered during two very warm afternoons of athletics at Kai Tak over the week- end and it is safe to say that in the running events fractions of seconda 'could have been taken off the shorter run performances and several seconds off the longer ones had it not been so warm and stifling:

The field events people-barring the long and hop, step jumpers-seemed to thrive on the heat and humidity and the shot and Javelin Hats have been almost completely revised.

have also contributed to remarkable performance

of all.

Her rst sporting success was prowess as a jumper. The

circling was as bad as it is at Boundary Street where the best time after two years of Kak-lan's competition is Lam 29.5 seconds. Yet on Sunday ve girls bant 29.3 seconds.

Rita ran 2 feet 3 inches too far and her time for 200 Metres must live been 27.8 or even 27.7 seconds. As the 220 Yards is

a longer distance than 200 Metros, her 28.0 mark will be ratifled also as a new Colony record for 200 Metres, displacing Lam

Kak-lan's 28.1 seconds.

It would be interesting to know what her time was over the last 100 Metres. It could well have been 12.5 seconds or faster.

A certain amount of criticism Is levelled occasionally at track mourers for being as much as

five feet on the safe side, but quite a few world record performances have never

reached the record 1sts for the fact that the error was a few inches the other way. It is always best to be on the safe alde.

This Season

The revised list of best perfomances by Hongkong athletes this season following the week-end's two meets at Kal Tak is tabulated here.

The sprint lists have been revised, marks credited to sprinters who were timed by time-keepers other than those of the HKAAA panel being deleted except in cases where other performances by the same men suggest that they could have been as fast,
