All Blacks Tour Can Stimulate British Rugby
Says PETER DITTON
London.
Some time ago I commented on the almost complete absence of enterprising back play in the British Rugby Union game. With the excep- tion of the England-Scotland match, the events of the past season have completely horne out the suggestion that back play is a dying art, and will continue to be so until it receives a blood transfusion.
support. And this can only be done if it provides real honest- to-goodness entertainment.
The stimulus so strongly needed could well be provided by the visit of the New Zealand All Black team later this year. It is a tour which all rugby followers in this country are eagerly awaiting. But a report in one of the national papers that if a New Zealand side thinks it can win a game by keeping the ball tight, it will do so, has caused considerable apprehension here.
Maybe the report was wrong. British rugby is left lying like a We just await events before we helpless it ! the door of an start condemning!

WHEN EDDIE BREAKS AWAY, IT'S A RECORD!
Stephen Xavier took this one in his stride, but it was an effort. Left at the start, he broke through for a new Colony 100 Metres record of 10.8 seconds in the Inter-School Sports at Sookunpoo on Friday.
Eddie Loureiro had again got off with the gun and, as at Pokfulam last month, Xavier had to go all out over the first 50 yards. Eddie is just over his shoulder. with Lee Wing-kal behind him,
On the left are Hung Chee.kee (St. Joseph's) and Cheng Man-ching (Diocesan) who was third. The surprising thing is that the field lags so far behind here as all four are potential 11 seconds flat sprinters.

The Australian cricket team to tour England this summer arrived in London tonight determined to show cricket at its best in this Corona- tion series..
Lindsay Hassett, the captain, who is making his fourth tour, said that bowl- ing bumpers would not be part of the Australians' scheme to retain the Ashes, and they were looking forward to the beat year of cricket any of them had experienced,

Dr Harold Warriss Thompson presented his combined Oxford and Cambridge University Soccer team, briefly known as Pegasus, at Wembley on April 11, which was the occasion of the Amateur Cup Final. They played another double-barrelled combination known as Harwich and Parkeston and won 6-0.
In April 1951 the young gentlemen from the varsities were at Wembley winning the Amateur Cup. The only surprise is how they ever had the nerve to lose their hold on the trophy last year.
