Belgrade. HEN I dined with Marshal Tito the other night, be foro dinner we drank small glasses of the Marshal's favourite drink- slivovitz, a potent, amber. coloured plum brandy, Yugoslavia's Scotch.
One
of the Marshal's aides told me it was twenty-five years old. The liquid was as smooth os Anest Scotch, and Tito was obviously enjoying every wee drop. So was this correspondent. When I asked the aide to tell me more about siivovliz, he said; "You must go out to the brandy market one morning."
Large fakes of snow were falling fast that Sunday morning I set out in the quest of the secret of Marshal Tito's favourlio beverage.
As I trudged through the now heavily falling snow-my nose and cars numbed past the Yugoslav parliament building. down the straight wide avenue lending to the brandy market. five miles out of town, I began to wonder if the market would be open in such foul weather.

As I walked home the snow was falling more heavily than ever. An icy wind was blowing from across the Danube.
