Against Complainant
Allegations that the complainant was not a fisherman, but earned his living by smuggling goods to Communist China, were made by two accused, Ng Sai-lo and Wong Hung, on trial at the Criminal Sessions. this morning on charges of shooting with intent to rob Tam Mui and assault with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.
The first accused, Ng, who is additionally charged with possession of a revolver and 15 rounds, alleged that Tam and his relatives had trumped up evidence against him to get him into trouble because Tam was afraid he would report him for smuggling, goods to China.
According to the case for the Crown, both accused were in a hoat in Castle Penk waters on the afternoon of November 23 last year and the first eccused hailed Tam's fishing boat. When Tam refused to go near him.. the first accused Ared six shot at his bont, but none found its mark.
The trial is before Mr Justice C. W. Reece and a male jury. Mr G. R. Sneath, Crown Coun sel, is prosecuting. assisted by Det-Sub-Insp. Gurney.
