Perjury Charges Against Scientist May Be Dropped

Washington, Feb. 27. - Federal Judge Alexander Holtzoff today raised the possibility that all perjury charges against Dr Joseph Weinberg would have to be dropped unless certain Congressional Committee minutes were produced.

Dr Weinberg, the so-called "Scientist X", is being tried on charges of lying about his alleged Communist connection before the House Un- American Activities Committee.

Judge Holtzoff gave warning

Edward returned to the country town in the Midlands where he had lived as a boy, and almost at once he found work. It was not much of a job, this Arst one, and the pay was poor; but Edward was in no position to pick and choose.

He was glad to be able to sug- port himself again, anxious to rebuild from the shambles' to which his crime had reduced his career. He was eager, hopeful, optimistic, about the future. He reckoned without the past.

Why we say Verger,

The title of verger denotes the official who cares for the interlor of a church. The word comes from the Eatin for switch or twig- virga because in Roman days --- minor- criminals were beaten with awitches. The bearer of these switches, or fasces, be- came a man of some importance in proces- Hions. Then when Christianity came, the official bearing the bishop's staff in a re- ligious procession was called a "verger,” It is from him that our present-day verger ob- tains his name.
