Nations General Assembly which opens tomorrow will produce fruitful results relating to the Korean war. NEW ATTEMPT

TO SETTLE

DISPUTE

Teheran, Feb. 22.

The Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Fatemi, said today that the United States had offered to buy at least US$100,000,000 worth of Iranian oil if Iran accepted Britain's proposals for compensation in the Anglo-Iranian dispute.

Mr Fatemi told newsmen Iran's reply to the American and British proposals had been delayed until Premier Mohammed Mossadegh's advisers had "made a more profound study of them".

He said the Americans had offered to pay part of the $100,000,000 before delivery of the oil as "stop gap" aid to Iran if the British proposals were accepted.

The British proposal, Mr Fatemi sníd, did not specify a figure for compensation, but asked for Iranian agree- ment on the "principle" by which it would be reached. The principle was that Iran agree to refer the question of compensation to arbitration,
