Goes Under Auctioneer's Hammer
FROM H. KING WOOD
Sydney, Feb. 13.
Glen Davis, once a neat little oil shale town, deep in a valley 140 miles west of Sydney, has gone under the hammer in the biggest auction sale ever held in Australia.
Once, many years ago, the Government hoped that it would be able to extract sufficient oil from shale to make it payable, spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on plant and equipment, laid out a model town.
But for years now the cost of Glen Davis has been mounting until finally the little oil being produced was costing so much that even the Government had to quit. So the order went out. Glen Davis was to end,

This brisk step-up in wool research is anc of the answers to the very real threat by synthetics.
That was about 12 months ngo. Gradually the miners and their families drifted out, gradually the neat gardens be cutne overgrown; overnight il became another ghost town. But for couple of days last week
