Investigation
Into Oil Monopoly To Continue American Judge's Ruling
Washington, Jan. 13.
District Judge James Kirkland today refused to end a Grand Jury investigation of an alleged world oil monopoly.
He denied motions from major oil companies asking him to kill the investigation.
The government's chief prosecutor, Mr Leonard Emmerglick, told Judge Kirkland that, since the oil companies had bluntly rejected a proposal to substitute a civil suit for a criminal proceeding, "the government proposes to indict these companies if the Grand Jury will indict."

Supply Was Quarter Of A Mile From Scene
The Chief Officer of the Hongkong Fire Brigade, Mr. W. J. Gorman has described last night's squatter fire at Homuntin New Village as "an ex- tremely difficult and dangerous operation." He says the operations were hampered by the fact that the nearest water supply to the scene of the fire was about a quarter of a mile away.
The fire originated at the extreme top of the hill and spread very rapidly to the northwest section of the squatter arca owing to the strong wind blowing at the time.
