Rubber In Artificial Cricket Pitches

By G.H. HARRIS, L.I.R.I.

Cricket can claim a longer history than any other team game. His- torians have attempted to trace its origin in various ball games played by ancient races, and even if some of these derivations are a little far fetched, we can at least say that 250 years ago the game was being played in a form not so very different from that of today.

The first recognised cricket club was Hambledon, which was formed in 1750 and remained in existence until 1791. Today cricket clubs in the British Isles are numbered by the thousands.

In addition to the County clubs į greater effort should be made to cricketers to which have their own well-kept encourage young grounds, there are those, by far start practising outdoors much the greater majority, which have carlier than the British climate to rely on local parks and sports will normally allow, and when grounds for their game in the grass pitches are not usable. summer evenings and on Satur- day afternoons.
