EMPIRE PREMIERS IN AGREEMENT ON THE DOLLAR GAP

First Step To Be Taken In The Sterling Area

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT)

London, Dec. 1.

The Commonwealth Prime Ministers, at their London economic conference today, agreed that the first step towards closing the dollar gap must be taken inside the Sterling Area itself.

This will be done by making better use of the Commonwealth's economic resources so as to ex- pand output of primary products particularly basic foodstuffs - which either at present cost dollars or have good dollar-earning possibilities.

Balance of payments needs will be a key factor in deciding which development schemes should be encouraged.
