"DOCTOR FRED"
By HENRY LONGHURST
If over a man was guide, philosopher and friend to golfers, that man was Fred Robson, whose death last week has been mourned wherever the game is played. Though he had a distinguished playing career, it is for bis tenching that posterity will remember him.
Fred was the family doctor of golf. He. hnd the perfect bedside, or perhaps tee-side, manner. He applied no desperate kill-or-cure remedies, but relied on the ancient proven prescriptions of slowing down the swing, looking at the ball and such like, at the same time Hoothing the patient and convincing him thắt he was not going to die after all.
An example was the Cambridge. undergraduate now. In New Zealand-who was sent to him suffering from golfing nerves. Fred prescribed some magic pills,

Fred had, though he may well not have realised it, a singular power of expression. He could

CUNNINGHAM
Since I first suggested years ago that the SFA should appoint an International Team manager, the idea has been adopted by almost every- ́one-except the parties who could make the appointment.
From my experience as an international player and as a club mannger, I cau assure the SFA that:
(1) A team manager could have ensured victory for Scotland over Ireland. (2) The man for the job is on the doorstep; but we shall lose him unless
un early offer is made.
