Everything that has happened this week has con- firmed the advance reports received in Hongkong con cerning the Duchess's charm 'and graciousness. She has proved herself to be an ideal ambassadress of the Royal Family and has forged new and valuable link between the British Throne and the Colony. Nothing has been more impressive about the Royal visit than the deep and very genuine interest which the Duchess of Kent has shown in Hongkong's affairs. The community also derivca gratification from the knowledge that Her Royal Highness has been impressed by the Colony and the endeavoura which are being made to deal with

United Nations, Oct. 30. Great Britain today called for "collective determination' not to allow the single prisoner of war issue delay an “honour- able armistice" in Korea any longer.

The appeal was made by Mr Selwyn Lloyd, British Minister of State, in a speech before the United Nations Political Committee on the deadlocked question of the re- patriation of prisoners.

Mr Lloyd challenged the assertion of the Soviet Foreign Minister, Mr Andrei Vyshinsky, that the Allied position against forcible repatriation violated the Geneva Convention.

He said the Convention provided that "prisoners of war shall be released and repatriated without delay after cessation of active hostilities." He asked: "Can it be said that a prisoner has been released if he has, in effect, to be conveyed in chains to the authorities of his own coun try?"
