Naguib Declares War

On Wafd Party

WILL MAKE PERSONAL

APPEAL TO

PEOPLE

FOR SUPPORT

Cairo, Sept. 28.

- General Mohammed Naguib's' Government today declared war on Mustafa Nahas' Wafd Party.

Unless something unexpected happens, the showdown can have only one end-victory for the soldier over the politician.

The Wafd's attitude is one of defiance of General Naguib's regime. Most political parties purged themselves in line with the Govern- ment's orders. The Wafd alone, claiming to be the largest single political organisation in the country, has refused to comply with the new law, which sets afinit of October 6 for compliance.

+

If by this date the Wafd attitude remains unchanged, it will automati. cally cease to be a political party. Its fund, amounting to about 285,000, will be confiscated and given to charity.

The Wafd announced last night that it was going out of business officially rather than do without Nahas Pasha, its millionaire "old guard" leader.

Promised Support. For Resolution

Morecambe, Sept. 29. Mr Aneurin Bevan's left wingers last night chalked up a series of tactical vie- tories against the official Socialist leadership, whose policies they will challenge at the Laufour Party's 51st annual conference opening here today (Monday).

Behind the scenes moves by the left wingers will force the assembly into a straight choice between the left-wing philo- sophy and the line followed by orthodox chief elements on vital questions.
