SEA FURIES HUNT MIG JETS
London, Sept. 16. Lieut. Peter Carmichael, R.N.,' the first Briton to shoot down a Russian-built MIG-15 fighter over Korea, said that British slow, tinyal pilots, flying obsolete Sea Furles, now go out hunting for the 850-m.p.b. enemy jets.
"The boys are out to get them," he said.
Reporting at the Admiralty, after being flown home from Korea, Licut. Carmichael told how the air, battle began at dawn on August 9..
"Four of us, dying Sea Furles, were patrolling at 3,800ft. near Chinnampo can spot of railway- breaking when my No. 2 called. up: 'MICS Ave o'clock-coming.
One came at mo head-on.
In:
I saw his heavy tracer aheits coming over. I fred a burst, Then he dashed past.
"I turned and looked over my shoulder. There was an aircraft going into the deck. I thought It was my No. 2. I called up. Tell-off and they all came bick, I said: "Wizard-a MIG","
When the patrol landed on their carrier, the Ocean, Lácut. Carmichael was told that he was the first pllot to shoot down
fying... a jet fighter while-flyi ...in a piston-engined aircraft $200 m.p.h, slower than the aremy. He was given bottle of champagno "but we had to hold up tho party till wa finished that operational
spell.
Llout Carmichael admired thự MIG-15 a beautiful thing to, ace" but thought enemy" air; tacties bad.
And now Lieut. Carmichael. 29-your-old veteran of 75 sorties over Koren, Is to lecture on air. nghting at the RN. Fighter.
