something French fishermen wore.
Out- fitters here carried a few pairs, usually for sale to motor mechanics in the summer.
Then a British business man noticed that photographs of American square dancers in- variably showed the men (and sometimes the girls) in jeans. So he advertised his stock as "Genuine American-type jeans."
