LEN MUNCER COMPLETES THE "DOUBLE"-FOURTH THIS SEASON TO DO IT

Lor ion, Sept. 1.

Len Muncer, the Glamorgan and former Middlesex all-rounder, became the fourth player to complete the "double" of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets this season — against Worcester at Cardiff today. This is the first time that he has performed the feat.

Before he brought his total of wickets to 100 in Worcestershire's second Inn- ings, Muncer was instrumental in preventing a follow-on with a rapid 37 which included six boundaries.

He was the only Glamorgan player to show any resistance against the bowl- ing of K. Lobban, the Worcestershire seam bowler, who took six wickets for 51, the best performance of his career.

Could anything be more farcical than this? Tottenham Hotspur have the finest young forward of post-war football in Tommy Harmer, yet he couldn't get a kick at the ball in the Cup match with Newcastle, the winners, last season because it was played on a mass of sticky mud.

Now Tottenham have dug up the whole playing piece, removed 3,500 tons of old soil, and spent £12,000 on a completely new pitch, including 25,500 turves, The four months of the close as, to my personal knowledge, proaching is a serious threat to the professional, Jim Morris, will show you in his shop. Bobby Johnstone Will Leave Hibernian

Not

Bobby Johnstone, Hibernian's International Inside forward, will not, after all, leave the club. He has decided that a transfer request he made by letter was "just a little too hasty."

After a long talk with manager Hugh Shaw he said "Scrap that letter. I don't want to leave Hibs." Bobby gave two reasons for his request. The first was that although he had had a cartilage operation on his left knee in May, he felt he was fit and should be playing in the first team and not in the reserves.

There is, of course, still plenty of gold left in Soccer-for some, London's two great clubs, Arsenal and Spurs--nelther of whom have made a big-momy buy in the past three years both made a profit of nearly £70,000 last season. And Tottenham have already banked over £50,- 000 from the sale of tickets for the new season!
