WAFD PARTY BELIEVED

PLANNING A COME-BACK

London, Aug. 20.

All reports from Cairo have prompted the be lief among British observers that Egypt is careen. ing headlong toward military rule and that the powerful Wafd Party is planning a come-back to grapple with the Army's "Strong Man", General Mohammed Naguib.

Rumours were current in Cairo yesterday that Mustafa Nahas and Serag el Din, two of the principal leaders of the Wafd, had resigned from the Party Executive at the dictation of General Naguib. These reports have been denied and the Party Executive continues its session at Alexan- dria, Cairo reports said, to "discuss reorganisa- tion."

This bold front against the purge demanded by the Army has impressed Middle East observers hore with the latent strength of the Wafd which is said here to be backed by a group of Egyptian millionaires whose aim is to restore the Party to power.

Middle East observers here have noted the gradual development of milltary rule in Egypt despite General Nagulb's declared intention of keeping the Army apart from politics.

Bastia, Corsica, Aug. 21. ·

A hunt for the fabulous treasure of 'Nazl General Rommell's Afrika Corps a reputed $285,000,000 worth of plundered gold, jewels and priceless art works was in preparation today.

It was reportedly sent to the bottom of the Mediter ranean off the northern coast of this island by four Ger- man officers in 1943 and it is said that Adolf Hitler ordered them to be court-martialled and shot.
