MORE PUBLIC INTEREST

London, July 20.

A notable increase in public interest in the welfare of Colonial students in the United King- dom became apparent last year, according to an annual report on students' welfare just published,

There has been an increase in the number of questions and discussions on the subject in Parlia ment, articles and correspondence in the Press, and in broadcast programmes.

The report continues: "One complaint that should perhaps be brought to notice is that Colonial students sometimes put up a friend for the night and then allow him, to live on per- manently with there is, in fact, ind vacahý 16 another tenant.

"This affords 1 further example of the need for instruc- ding students before they leave

home of differences in custom with which they are likely to be

faced in the UK.

POSITION IMPROVES "Generally speaking, however, the behaviour ot Coloniat students is good."

Despite the difficulty of per- suading some landladies to ac- cept coloured students, the re- port states, the position is stendi- iy Improving.

During 1951, over 1,000 new addresses were added to the re- gister throughout the UK. and over 800 of these were suitable for Colonial students,
