Durham Batsman Scores 135 Against Indians

Sunderland, July 2.

Durham surprised the touring Indians here today in their two-day match by being able to declare with six| wickets down for 302 runs after being put in to bat.

Then they rounded off their excellent batting by taking the wickets of D. Gaekwad and Adhikari, the acting captain, before the close with only 15 runs on board.

The Indians continue their innings tomorrow 287 runs arrcors and with eight wickets standing.

Durham owed much to slightly built Jack Keeler who made 135 and Alex Coxon, the former England and Yorkshire player,

Keeler treated all the Indian Lowling with the same coti- fidence, using his feet to set the pitch of the ball.

SIX OFF SHINDE

Once he hit Shinde for Д Innings glorious six, and his included 13 fours. He helped to put on 12 for the first wickel, then he and Coxon took the score to 200 before Coxon was run out.

Coxon, though not is gressive as Keeler, scored valuable 50,

Coxon also bowled well when the Indians were left with an hour's batting and he obtained Gaekwad's wicket.

England's victory over India in the second Test-Mankad's Test-at Lord's hos put them in an unassailable position. They are now two up with two to play. The picture is Indeed satisfactory. But more important still is the fact. that the team to meet Australia next season is beginning to take very definite shape,

The England Selectors, under the Chairmanship of Norman Yardley, have done a good job of work. With one or possibly two exceptions they have brought together England's best team since the war..
