BARTEN ATTAINS HER MAJORITY AS A HARBOUR SWIMMER

Doris Barten, whom the old-timers will remember as Doris Hant, the youngest girl ever to swim the harbour, yesterday attained her majority as a harbour swimmer. On her 21st crossing, she finished fourth among the women and somewhere between 30th and 40th in the whole field. "Her last victory was in 1938.

Doris thus becomes the only citizen of Hongkong who is a full-fledged harbour-swimming adult and has so far managed to put aside $2.00 that she could have spent on using the ferry service.

All she has earned is another medal and certificate. It would be a popular gesture if some recognition of her accomplishment could be accorded by the Harbour Authority. The Royal Navy couldn't go wrong in noting the event either as Doris was the first of its swimmers to complete the course.

It was the longest harbour race in history and one of the toughest.
