Cyril Washbrook, Lancashire and England opening batsman, in scoring a fine 182 against Oxford University at Oxford today became the highest scorer of the season so far.

The previous hest was 171 by Peter May for Cambridge University against Yorkshire while Harold Gimblett reached 169 when batting for Somerset against Worcester.

Washbrook did not give a chance or make a false stroke in an innings which Insted four hours and 40 minutes. It was a splendid innings by a batsman full of confidence and he never looked like getting out until he played on.
