Jean Ado-Who Survived A Death Sentence-Is The French Golf Champion

By

DENNIS HART

One of the most colourful characters in the British golf season which has just started is Jean Baptiste Ado, the broad-shouldered Basque from the little French town of St Jean de LozZ.

But few of the spectators who applaud his prodigious driving — he is perhaps know the hazards Jean has had to surmount to be the longest hitter in the game - present on this year's golfing scene.

INDIANS DISMISS SURREY FOR 219 RUNS, THEN LOSE FOUR WICKETS FOR 64

London, May 7.

Ben-

After an unimpressive beginning, the Indians put in some sational work at Kennington Oval to dismiss Surrey for 219 runs.

But in reply, they had lost four good wickets for only 84 runs when play ceased on the first day.

Į

The wicket appeared damp in the morning and Hazare's decision to put Surrey in after winning the toss might have been partly influenced by an intention to let his men have an opportunity to study the wicket before batting on it.
