On Dispute

FOR A SETTLEMENT WITH EGYPT
London, May 7.
There is no indication here today that the Egyptian Government has turned down the latest British proposals for resuming negotiations on the Anglo-Egyptian treaty.
The speech made by the Egyptian Premier, Hilaly Pasha, yesterday, on the anniversary of King Farouk's accession, was well received in London because it gave no intimation of a rejec tion of British ideas.
British officials were inclined to discount the im- portance attached by the Press to the mecting yester- day between the Prime Minister, Mr Winston Chur- chill, and the Egyptian Ambassador, Abdel Fatah Amr Pasha.
They said that this conversa- lion should not be considered as part of the exploratory talles which have been going on in Cairo and Lendon over the past Iwo montas and that it was more in the nature of a courtesy call.
The officials said, that Amr Pasha was held in very high regard by Mr Churchill and thai it was logical that Mr Churchill should take the first opportuni- ty of a general talk on the | Angia-Egyptian situation with the Ambassador to get grst- hand Impressions of the point
of view of "The Egyptiana.
There was
no disposition, however, to discount suggestions that Mr Churchill might have also taken the opportunity to opress on Amr Pasha Britain's desire to develop the wider field of agreement which was sald have been reached during the exploratory lalks.
