JUDGE IMPOSES FINES & ORDERS SUSPENSION OF PAPER FOR 6 MONTHS Defence To Lodge Appeal

Fei Yi-ming, publisher-proprietor, and Lee Tsung-ying, cditor, of the Ta Kung Pao, were this morning found guilty on charges of sedition by a special jury by a count of 6 to 1. Richard Bow, printer of the paper, was found unanimously not guilty.

Fei was fined $4,000 or nine months imprisonment, Lee was fined $3,000 or six months, while the Judge (Mr Justice Williams) ordered the suspension of the Ta Kung Pao for six months.

Mr Percy Chen, leading counsel for the defence, gave immediate notice that he would appeal against the sentences, and that he would apply in Chambers for a stay of execution of the suspension of the Ta Kung Pao.

Mr Justice Williams, in passing sentence, told defendants their paper was an influence for evil in the Colony.
