SERVICE ESTABLISHES A RECORD

A satisfactory new franchise for the Star Ferry Co., Ltd., was reported to have resulted from negotiations with Government by Mr John Keswick, CMG, when he presided at the company's annual meeting held this morning in the Board Room of Messrs Jardine, Matheson & Co.

Mr Keswick also disclosed that "considerable progress has been made in regard to plans for new piers," and that the company was wait- ing to proceed with the construction of a new ferry boat.

In the course of the year under review, said Mr Keswick, the Star Forry vessels had made a total of 134,400 single crossings, which constituted a record in the history of the company. This had been accomplished without any accident either to ferries or passengers! Proposing the adation of the report and accounts, Mr Kes wick said:
