There was a $63,000,000 gap between Philippine imports and ex- ports during 1951 despite increased production, stringent import controls and E.C.A. aid, figures released by the Secretary of Commerce and Industry revealed today.

Good progress in eliminating the dollar im- balance was made during the first six months of the year when striet import controls prohibited. the importation of all but the most essential pro- ducts, the Secretary, Cornelio Balmaceda said.

During that period the Philippines exported $38,500,000 more than it imported.
