Dundee,

As Clydeside is synonymous with shipbuilding so it is that Dundee is synonymous with jute, but while the average individual knows, some- thing of ship construction little or nothing is known by the general public about the intricacies of jute production.

An explanation is not hard to find! Since the industry first became established in Dundee some 120 years ago an "iron curtain" has sur- rounded the mills, a curtain so effective that, until recently, no one mill owner ever saw the inside of another mill.

But, happily, circumstances have changed, and there is an air of fellowship among the town's jule producers, and the curtain was effectively raised list week when the industry opened its doors to Pressmen from all over Britain.
