Truman Won't

Stand In Eisenhower's

Way For

PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDACY

Washington, Jan. 10. President Truman today said he would not stand in General Dwight Eisenhower's way if the Allied commander should win the Republican pre- sidential nomination.

The President said that, until recently, he had thought that General Eisenhower was a Democrat. He said he was not sure the general was a Republican until this week, although he had begun to have doubts last August.

Mr Truman said that if the general wanted to get out there and have mud and rotten eggs thrown at him, he could certain- ly do so. However, he told a news conference, he would not relieve General Eisenhower of his Euroopan command unless the general requested it.

Ap. parently Mr Truman would per- mit the general to come home any time Eisenhower wishes to do so.
