Canberra Jet Bomber Explodes

In Mid-Air

FAMED BRITISH PLANE MEETS WITH DISASTER

Baltimore, Dec. 21.

The British Canberra bomber, which flew the Atlantic recently in record time, exploded in the air and crashed into a river flowing into Chesapeake Bay from Baltimore today. according to reports here tonight,

First reports said that a Navy plane had pulled a man out of the wreckage.

The Navy air station at Annapolis said that it had indirect word that some survivors were rescued.

The Canberra was carrying two American Air Force fliers. One is believed dead, the other seriously injured.

An official of the Glenn Martin Company said it was understood that the plane involved was the first of two Canberras flown over the Atlantic by British Air Force men. The official said that the plane left the Glenn Martin airport with a crew of two.

The Glenn Martin Company is to produce Canberras for the United States Air Force. The official said that so far none had been built here. -Reuter.
