ON BRIDGE Sometimes It's Okay To Bid Three Cards

In support of this statement i cite the celebrated case of People va. Fishbein The defendant was my old frivad larry Fishbein, the Na York expert, and slice the case had to do with bridge, the pour People didn't have a' chance.

Fishbein avaided bidding at long as he could with the South hand, but when both opponents did hearts he felt sure that his partner had good spadea us the basis of his double of une club. How To Make Your Own Slipcover

By ELEANOR ROSS

TIRED of the same old slipcovers? Then how about taking advantage of the the wide range of beautiful fabrics in shops and running up a chair slipcover as a beginner?

Old, discarded or don't-mix chairs take on a new lease life when treated to matching slipcovers. We watched a weary room become beautiful when the pieces were slipcovered in a creamy chintz, So, let's get busy with cover for a simple, straight-lined chair.

To Avoid Piecing

A

A good tip is to select a fabric wider than the widest part of the chair. This avoids the difficult job of piecing in a repeat panel (to avoid "centring" each panel). Choose tightly- woven fabrics. Fabric should jaunder and be shrink-and sun-proof.

if

To determine necessary yardage, measure all parts of chatr: the inside and outside back, inside and outside arms, cushion and width and length of skirt (allowing for pleats Allow two extra you plan to bave them). inches for all seams, two inches for skirt hem, and three inches of fabric width for tuck-ins at inside corners where arms juin chair rack. Inside back, seat, front, then inside arms, out- side back, then outside arms, and, finally the

pinning skirt, is the order for cutting,

and trimming.
