TO FOOT
By Dorethy Barkley
LONDON,
This scuson, we are going Spanish in our hairstyles, and wearing mantillas and picadors' cops. The new style is called the "Troubadour Trim", and was pre- sented recently in London by Riche; for "atmosphere" in his salon there were colourful Spanish paintings on the walls, music on the guitar, and for every visitor, a rose wired from Spain the same morning.
During the past few years we have been offered successively bubble cuts, coolie cuts, and urchin cuts. Last year the rage for the short cut died down, and there was a race among the fashion-conscicus to be first to sport a chignon (in spite of the infinite patience needed in the growing, pinning and wearing).
So, after the chignon, what do hairstylists offer us next in the Troubadour Trim"? Is it long, short or what? It is a mixture of both; lang ut the sites, short at the back. As you will see from the photograph, the long hair is swept back over the cars, and the short hair at the nape of the neck is combed up in soft curis. This, we feel, is a style which many women will like: it is easy to look after, (we noticed how it stood up to a good combing), and goes well with the little hats and caps of the season.
Recently, Riche showed the same hairstyle in Paris, where he represented British hair stylists at the annual congress of the Syndicat Hante Coiffure Francais.
Riche, with a practical turn of mind, gave this advice to women: "If you want longer hair, have it at the side of the head, where you can cope with it" He then demonstrated to his audience how, with a little ingenuity and a few carefully chosen accessories-a-gold lace men tilla, perhaps, or a sparkling jewe-to produce a dozen bewitching variations of the Troubadour. And finally, if you feel in the gay, colourful mood of the Spanish fieste, encircle the head with a bright red and gold sash, gypsy-fashion; then find someone who can play a guitar or castanets. FOOTLIGHT PARADES
