It's not true to suggest that it's anything like gorgeous American produc- tions in the same field, for restraint limits. its ex- travagance, but "Happy Go Lovely" is more than a pleasant film-in some ways it's almost like an experi- ment in luxurious sobriety.

It is sober in every respect- in Ils lavishness, in the impos- sibility of its story, in its choice of talent, and in its version of technicolour.
