Prison Sentence Is Changed To Fine

A prison sentence was changed to a fine by Mr R. W. S. Winter, Kowloon magistrate, when the wife of defendant interceded on his behalf this morning.

Chan Fook-lee, 50, master of the fishing junk, had been sentenced to six months for attempting to export prohibited articles, but when his wife pleaded for a fine instead the magistrate rescinded the prison sentence and fined the man $2,000.
