TWO RECORDS
FIRST DAY'S HEATS
By "RECORDER”
Two Colony records were broken in the first day's heats of the Colony Swimming Championship at the Victoria Recreation Club yester- day and both went with effortless ease.
The free-stylers this year are the fastest ever assembled in a Colony Cham- pionship and the slowest qualifier in the 220 Yards Free Style yesterday was "thaed in 2 minutes 30 1/5 seconds.
Cheong Kin-man surprised the gallery by winning the first heat of the 220 Yards in 2 minutes 20 seconds, clipping 2.4/5 seconds off his Championship record
set last year.
YOUNGSTERS IMPRESS IN OPENING MATCHES OF HARDCOURT TOURNEY
The 1951 Colony Hardcourt Tennis Championships opened yes terday simultaneously with five Men's Singles matches at the Chinese Re- creation Club, and five Mixed Doubles and one Ladies Singles games at the Ladies Recreation Club.
Except for one match, which went to the full distance of three sets, the men's games at the Chinese Recreation Club resulted in easy victorles for the favourites. Although only in their opening round, the games at the Ladies' Recreation Club produced extremely keen competition and a vastly improved standard of tennis was seen in all the games, :
