Radio Hongkong On The Air
All Day On Thursday
On Thursday, August 30, Hongkong com- memorates the liberation of the Colony at the end As this is a public of the Second World War. holiday, Radio Hongkong will be on the air all day from 8.00a.m. to 11.30 p.m.
Alec Guinness performs a remarkable eight- some in the film "Kind Hearts and Coronets." In 'Picture Parade' tonight at half-past-eight listen- ers can hear him discussing what he thought about it all, and Harry Frampton, the make-up man, gives some idea of the work involved in turning one man into eight members of the noble d'Ascoyne family, six of whom appeared together in one
scene.
This British film is described by Robert Hamer, who adapted it from an Edwardian novel, as a sophisticated, cynical, highly improbable and quite amoral comedy.' At any rate he has turned out one of the most amusing film scripts of recent years, and the whole affair is put over with con- siderable wit and polish. Taking part in the pro- | gramme are Hamer and Joan Greenwood, one of the stars, and sound track excerpts from the film include the voices of Dennis Price and Valerie Hobson.
Elvie Yuen, soprano, and John Small, baritone, are the artists in Thursday evening's studio recital at 8.16, and their programme is one of English songs. John Small sings "The English Rose," from German's "My Lovely "Merric England," "Sea Fever," and Celia," while Elvic Yuen has chosen "Silent Noon" and "Queen Mary's Song."

Oscar Wilde's story of the Young King whose eyes were opened to the misery that ministered to his atate has been adapted for the BBC by Kenneth Pakeham as a fantasy with music for Radio. "The Young King," perhaps the best known of Wilde's fairy tales, is broadcast over Radio Hongkong, on Tuesday evening at 9.15 p.m.

Among Thursday afternoon's programmes is a half-hour piano recital by Kathleen Long. This is on one of the new long-playing records. It comes at 3 o'clock and the works she will be playing are. Sonata in G by Scarlatti, two Novelettes and a Ro- mance by Schumann, and Faure's Nocturne No. 6 in D Flat Major 'Opus 63.
